Claiming that they are treated like slaves, inmates from up to five Texas prisons have orchestrated a historic workers’ strike. A lack of access to quality food and water, low wages, overcrowding, and poor working conditions were among their complaints.Striking inmates are refusing to leave their cells for work assigned by Texas Corrections Industries (TCI), a publicly traded company. Established in 1963 under the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, TCI uses prison labor to make a variety of products “from hand soap to bed sheets, from raising livestock to making iron toilets and portable buildings,” all of which are sold to local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as public schools, and hospitals ‒ and prisoners receive none of the profits, according to a letter outlining the reasons for the strike. Yes I know all about the corporate prison complex in America. If only these prisoners who are whining about their treatment would see how prison systems elsewhere in the world work. For example if your in a Russian prison they make you walk everywhere bent over, and Russian prison is ran by the military. Where else in the world besides America to people who have broken law and or committed violent crimes get things like the internet, television, and three square meals a day? I feel like these prisoners complaining of their treatment has something to do with the Obama DOJ releasing non violent offenders. The thing is that you committed felonies and it's time for you to pay for the crime. Honestly prisoners have it better then people who still have their freedom in America, at least you don't have to deal with the bullshit we deal with on the outside of your prison walls. As I see it you don't get treated like prisoners in foreign nations, so stop whining on your free ride in prison that the American tax payer is forced to pay for.
