A Chicago man, fed up and frustrated with what he says is the rising crime in his neighborhood, takes matters into his own pocketbook — shelling out thousands to pay for private street security. CBS 2’s Dana Kozlov reports. Security firm owner Howard Greer, also a Chicago cop, patrols the 1100 block of North LaSalle. It’s his off-duty job, paid for by this De Mudd. “I’ve been watching my neighborhood deteriorate over the last couple of years,” Mudd says. Police, he says, couldn’t keep up. So, Greer and fellow off-duty officers now walk the Gold Coast pocket with guns and handcuffs — six days a week, eight hours a day. While gun control persist in the city of Chicago, this might be the only way for Chicagoans to take back their city by law abiding citizen armed patrols. Of course though this is very dangerous because citizen security patrols will likely become a target of street gangs. The police in Chicago are worn out and tired, and for citizens to help them patrol the streets could be a plus to deal with the crime plaguing Chicago for the last four years. You have even heard the stories where veterans who live in the area of Chicago would rather be in Afghanistan rather than around the city of Chicago, because you have a better chance of being killed in the streets of Chicago than the war zone known as Afghanistan. News of citizens patrolling their communities armed without pay brings some hope on the blood soaked streets of gun control Chicago. This might be the only good news coming out of Chicago in the last seven or so years. Finally a glimmer of hope for Chicago among all the chaos.
